Thanks. If that's the case, will they explain how bloggers can ensure their links are secure?

Hello there,

When I click on the icon you're describing, I see this message, "Your connection to daughterofslaveancestry.wordpress.com is encrypted with modern cryptography. However, this page includes other resources which are not secure."

As not all the items on your site are housed at WordPress.com (ie. third-party links to non https sites), you are seeing this message.

Upon a cursory glance of some of the third-party items you've added to your site, I can tell you that the widget with the Geneabloggers link is one of the items causing this to occur. When I tried to add it to a secure test site, my test site also had the exclamation point/triangle icon. When I deleted your link/image, the expected https icon reappeared.

You may experiment to see which other (if any) outside links on your site might also be causing this to happen.

I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much!

I'll experiment; but do you recommend removing the offending links to maintain the integrity of my blog? Will the warning continue if I remove the GeneaBloggers badge and just link to it in the blogroll? Thanks for your prompt reply.

Hi again,

To be absolutely honest, if I were you, I would keep the link. It's meaningful to your site, and it's not disrupting the viewing of your site. It's not a dangerous link.

That icon is a warning (that I suspect very few people pay attention to), rather than an emergency notice.

If you have any suspicions about your links, check them out. At the very least, this will make you more knowledgable should any of your visitors ask about the warning icon.

Regarding the link -- and moving it to your blogroll -- it's worth experimenting with, if it's enough of a concern for you. However, I cannot be certain if the issue will be alleviated or not, since the link will be the same. It will only be displayed as text, rather than as an image link.

Drop me a note if you choose to do this. I'd like to hear your findings.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!

When I do a Google search for my latest post title and click on it, I get a privacy warning:

"Your connection is not private. Attackers might be trying to steal your information from piedtype.com ... This server could not prove that it is piedtype.com; its security certificate is from *.wordpress.com. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection."

What's going on? How do I fix this?

The Google search also shows the post was crawled 8 hours ago and I only posted it about 30 minutes ago. What's that about?

So I can disable the alert so I won't see it, but what about all my readers? Won't they still see it? Won't that kill or discourage readership? I paid for the custom domain name but WP won't support SSL on it!? Terrific.

but what about all my readers? Won't they still see it?

Yes, unless they act to disable it.

Won't that kill or discourage readership?

Yes.

Me too and for two blogs but this factor was not included in the support docs at the time and still not included here in Important Notes Before Upgrading

I just upgraded Microsoft, not sure if that has anything to do with this but now my WordPress blog is locked, can't link it via other sites. It was http: and now shows up as https:

How do I fix that?

For the same reason I'm not, is my guess. I had to stop publishing lest my blogging tips blog turn into a rant blog. Now I sing instead of blogging.

I've got more pressing matters to worry about these days. No energy to spare for WP's inexplicability.

I'm 100% sure that Staff are planning to provide SSL for mapped domains and sub-domains as soon as they can do so.
