If someone tries to access your site via http and not https the http version should automatically redirect to the https. You can test that out in your browser. WordPress.com handles all of this behind the scenes for you. There's no additional SSL needed with a WordPress.com hosted site.
Which browser and version are you using? Is there a fire wall or browser extensions enabled? Does this happen on other networks or devices?
